Since 1999, Public Allies Los Angeles has graduated more than 400 young adults.
Through our signature Ally Program, Public Allies advances the skills, networks and experience of diverse young leaders as they strengthen communities, nonprofits and civic participation. Public Allies selects our communities’ most promising young leaders, who commit to a rigorous and rewarding 10-month program of full-time, paid apprenticeships in community organizations, team service projects and bi-weekly leadership training.
Apprenticeships: Public Allies provides full-time, 10-month apprenticeships in nonprofit agencies where Allies take responsibility for service delivery in areas such as youth development, health, education, economic development and public safety. We offer Allies the chance to gain “real world” experience in a supportive learning environment.
Leadership Training & Development: Allies receive rigorous leadership training from community leaders, professional consultants, and nonprofit and corporate executives — helping Allies to develop a wide range of skills, knowledge and abilities. Allies gain experience in communication and critical thinking, appreciation of diversity, ability to resolve conflict, personal accountability, and recognition of community assets.
Team Service Projects: Allies work together to create innovative responses to local community needs through Team Service Projects — teaching them to mobilize resources in a community and work productively with people from all walks of life.
